A LIGHT IN THE DARK –

Inspired by the Ukrainian folktale The Christmas Spider

The story which tells of a poor widow whose children grew a Christmas tree but could not afford decorations. During the eve of Christmas night, grateful for the warm cabin and the rafters it lived in, a magical spider spun delicate webs across the branches. When morning sunlight touched them, the webs turned to shimmering gold and silver, bringing good fortune and giving rise to the Ukrainian tradition of decorating Christmas trees with sparkling tinsel and spider ornaments.

Theme:
Hope can be found in unexpected places. Kindness never goes unnoticed. Even in the darkest seasons, light can be woven from love.

LYRICS: A widow lived humbly, her hands worn yet kind, In cracks of the floor, a pine cone thrived. A light in the dark- The children, they watered it, they watched it grow, A tree without ribbons, and window laced snow. Christmas eve found them with nothing to spare. But hope lingered softly like frost in the air. A light in the dark finds the lonely. Love fuels a spark we can’t see. Magic is real, if you believe! A spider above ,worked thru the night. Spinning those dreams, soft as the sky. A light in the dark – Come Christmas morn’, the web’s shimmers bright ’N Joy melts the sorrow – oh what a sight! The web turns to silver, then glows like gold No hunger remains, no more nights spent cold. Some say it’s higher power, some say it’s faith. It’s the story of why we hang tinsel today. A light in the dark…
