To go with or without a website – The music will go on!

Posted by Melanie Dekker Category: Blog & News

While I continue shaping where, how, and why my online presence should grow, one thing is absolutely clear — this website remains an essential part of my journey as a musician and creative artist.

This site is more than just a page on the internet. It is my official music hub, a living archive of my songs, projects, performances, and creative explorations. It’s the one place where everything comes together — my music, my story, my updates, and my future releases — without algorithms deciding who gets to see what.

Your visits here truly matter. Every click, listen, and share helps me keep this website active as a central home for my music, original content, and creative endeavours. It allows me to connect with listeners directly, offer deeper insight into my work, and continue building a space that inspires, informs, and evolves.

Music is meant to inspire, and this website exists to do exactly that — to be a creative meeting place where new listeners can discover my sound and longtime supporters can stay connected to everything I’m creating.

Thank you for being part of this journey — and for helping keep this space alive, growing, and meaningful.

Upsides of having a website:
Having a website is very beneficial for Me (Melanie Dekker) as an independent musician. It gives me a central, professional place to showcase music, tour dates, videos, and biography without relying only on social media. A website may also feel & look more credible to fans, venues, and potential partners. It allows me to sell merchandise and music directly and control how my brand is presented in a way. Fans can easily sign up for newsletters, which helps me maintain a loyal audience and promote new releases.

Downsides of having a website:
One downside is the cost and time required to maintain a website. It needs regular updates, design improvements, and technical support, which are both expensive and time-consuming. If not updated often, the website can look outdated, get slow etc. Also, it seems that many of my fans and friends mainly use social media platforms, so some visitors may not regularly check this website, making it less effective unless than it was, unless…ironically I actively promote it on social media:)
